Uncle Bucks is a fantastic place to stay for a night or a week. It’s in the heart of the Sandhills with the North Loup River drifting by as seen from the north deck. |There are rooms that fit every budget, rooms with a shared bath or rooms with en-suite. Breakfasts are included with the room and are hearty, eggs bacon and pancakes one morning, egg bake another, fresh fruit, freshly baked blueberry muffins, hot coffee juice and tea. We stay here several times a year while we work and visit family near by. It is very clean and comfortable.

We found Uncle Bucks about 27 years ago while on an Old West vacation with our 4 children. We couldn’t find a motel and somehow landed at Uncle Bucks. The Old West charm was everywhere and holds a vivid memory for our family. Last year we came back with friends and found that same “feels like home” atmosphere. Yesterday we came again, ate dinner with many from the surrounding area and as we finished the evening I realized that Uncle Bucks feels like “going to Grandma’s house” I hope we can come again.

Walt and his wife Marilyn are tremendous hosts with excellent customer service skills. The lodge is a business but they are wonderful at making everyone feel at home and are extremely knowledgeable about the history of the land. They have a unique western decor with lots of family pictures with descriptions that allow you to feel welcome into there family history…Marilyn cooks 3 great meals a day, and Walt really saved me when my car got stuck in a snow drift and he came and pulled me out of the heavily compacted snow I was stuck in. Thanks for everything Marilyn and Walt.

This is an amazing gem in the Nebraska Sandhills. If you are looking for a place to get away from the big city hustle and bustle Uncle Bucks is the place for you. You will find the owners Marilyn and Walt the best hosts. The ability to unwind and decompress is priceless. There are many things to do in the area if you are willing to seek them out.

We enjoy discovering unique and great places to visit and stay as we discover the culture of Nebraska. Uncle Bucks Lodge has a place in this process, as it seeks to preserve the cowboy and Western culture of the Sandhills of Nebraska. Marilyn was a wonderful host. Prepared a fabulous steak dinner for us. We were here only guests on an "off" night, so we had the lodge to ourselves. The room was clean and interestingly furnished. The atmosphere was friendly and a reminder of a past era when word was honor and honesty was a handshake. From the "just mix your own drinks and let me know how many you had" to the next morning "we are leaving for a funeral, but stay as long as you wish," the ambiance of the place was overwhelmingly what we all long for and remember. The price was very reasonable for our overnight, dinner, breakfast, and bar bill. I would say no visit to the Sandhills should be complete without at least one overnight at Uncle Bucks Lodge. The decor is difficult to describe, but a combination of Western, antique, hunting trophy, and who knows what else, but it works to make a very friendly and inviting ambiance. My wife grew up in Western Kansas and she said the place brought back all kinds of childhood memories. You may have to go a bit out of your way to stay here, but it is worth it. And the bar, wow, it is something right out of Bonanza!!!!! This place is an absolute must for anyone exploring Nebraska.

If the only way you have crossed Nebraska on your way to places with bigger reputations is the interstate, then you have missed some of the beauty of this great land. On a bend in the North Loup River at the eastern edge of the Sandhills is Brewster, Nebraska (population 17) and Uncle Buck's Lodge. Both modern and ancient, I have never seen another place quite like it. I found the place through AirBnb with which our host, Marilyn, had recently listed the place. Since it is located a good distance from "civilization", she offers pretty much any amenity a traveler might require. Having a decently stocked bar, my wife and I started our stay with a gin and tonic. Marilyn had prepared dinner not only for family members, but for some of the road crew that was staying there while working on the highway to south of town. We all had her meatloaf, sweet corn-on-the-cob, jello salad, green salad, fresh baked bread, and berry pie for dinner. Many places like to crow about their "home made" meals, but this was the real McCoy. The Turner Room in which we stayed was not only clean and comfortable, but a museum exhibit dedicated to one of the founding families of the area. Marilyn and her family were all people of a deep, direct, and unsentimental kindness. This is one of the most restful places I have ever stayed.

Nebraska Operation Lifesaver had a Whistle Stop Tour through Nebraska and fortunately for our rail safety team Brewster was one of the County Seats we were scheduled to visit. What a wonderful and welcoming place to visit! The host and hostess were perfect, the lodge was so beautiful and comfortable, and the food was delicious! My friends and I were looking for a place to spend the night when we were on our way to Mount Rushmore, South Dakota from Denver, Colorado. Luckily in the middle of the journey we encountered Uncle Buck's! |A very unique lodge, in the deep country. When we arrived we were lucky enough to join one of their parties, where people from nearby towns had come down to, celebrate a locals birthday. |We were welcomed in very friendly manner and we shown straight to the bar. Before being asked if we would like to eat dinner, as they knew we had travelled a long distance that day. Dinner was amazing, a home made traditional plate was served, and seconds were taken. During the dinner, we had the opportunity to be a part of a true country jam experience, consisting of many people sat around in a circle near the fireplace playing their guitars and singing traditional country songs. |After this we were shown to our room and this consisted of traditional decor which was very elegant and pretty. The beds were very large and comfortable, and everything was clean and in perfect working condition. |In the morning we were greeted with breakfast, which had consisted of pancakes, bacon, eggs and coffee. |Our stay was very cosy, and we were well taken care off by the owners Walt and Marilyn. If there was one thing we wish to change, it would be the ability to stay there longer and get to know more of the beautiful town! ||- International students from NMSU
