I did my research before I went to Nogales Mexico to buy prescriptions that were becoming prohibitively expensive in US. I picked up a mild pain reliever, a muscle relaxer I bought in Mexico before and abuteral inhalers for a friend with COPD. As soon as I reached the entry gate I immediately declared all my purchases. The border patrol agent who was handling my reentry was brusque, unfriendly and did her best to intimidate and frighten me. One of my purchases was not allowed. I was prepared for that possibility but not for bullying and name calling. I was referred to as a criminal and a drug mule (the inhalers). I was dragged off to another room, forbidden to call my sister and had all my belongings taken. The second officer very nicely told me I could go back to Mexico and get my money back. He was polite and immediately gave me my belongings back. I did what he asked, went across the border and tossed the meds. Some ie that first officer are not suited to have authority. She was inappropriate and abusive. I am traumatized by this experience.

A GREAT and PROFESSIONAL agency with FANTASTIC men and women working the border. Having had two occasions to have contact with Border Patrol Agents, once asking for directions; the agents took the time out to talk with us and give us the guidance that we needed. Courteous, polite and never intimidating like some may say. They were nice enough you want to take them home to feed them a home cooked meal! The other occasion, my wife had a flat tire on the interstate. Highway Patrol and Sheriffs drove right by - not giving a second glance. Even though she was awaiting road side assistance - two Border Patrol Agents stopped - changed her tire, listening to her say she had help coming, they changed the tire and had her on her way in less than 10 minutes. After all was said and done, the agents told my wife, it was getting late and dark, they did not want her stranded on the side of the road - apologized if they caused a problem with the motor club, but offered to follow her to ensure she made it home to Rio Rico with the donut spare tire. GREAT people! I wish I had names; but as far as I am concerned, all of the Nogales agents get a that-a-boy and that-a-girl! Don't let this silly democratic government shut-down scare you away as YOU ARE APPRECIATED!

We walked across the Nogales port of entry to shop. No problem! Foot traffic was light UNTIL we found ourselves in a LONG line returning to the U.S. There was ONE agent working the line; two other agents were at there station but not accepting anyone. It was 12:30 pm and apparently on their lunch break? Very discouraging and reluctant to return to Mexico if for no other reason than the mess in crossing the border to return to the U.S.

There are no signs on the Mexican side of the border indicating if the FAST LANES are open/closed, so if you drive down that lane then you must back track against the flow of traffic until there is an opening to make a u-turn. The lines at the border are always ridiculously long and time consuming. There must be a more efficient manner to allow US CITIZENS back into the country.
