We were seniors returning with a truck and 21 foot travel trailer from a 2 month trek through Baja and mainland Mexico and decided to to the US through this (Nogales-Mariposa) crossing.
We were asked to recall every item of produce and dairy in our camper while the woman border officer wrote out each item on her black glove(yes, that’s not a misprint). Then we were instructed to “stand by that sign”, while she alone went into our camper(in a camper she was unfamiliar with) and rummaged through our camper. She returned with the items we recalled ie :eggs and a apple, and a couple items that we didn’t..,a couple old oranges that we would have chucked if we realized we had them and a very small plant that we’ve traveled with for years, never leaves the camper, and never problematic at all border. No worries, my fault, it was a plant. It seems it would have made more sense for one of the camper owners to be present during this intrusion and search, but we were relegated to a sign post . We were not hiding anything)the 2inch potted plant was in full view) , but we were treated like felons by this woman.
She read “scolded” for not coming clean with these items, threatening us with fines. She gave us warning(for forgetting old oranges and a 3 inch plant!)This is the reality we live in now….if you go through Nogales! I’d never do it again.

We didn’t hang around, we didn’t cross, it seemed quite and non-busy. The streets are clean and not many people around.

First of all Yesterday i had a really bad experience, I’ve been going to nogales from Phoenix since i was little but 5 years more often because dentist is so cheap. Honestly I can’t believe what happened to me yesterday afternoon worse humiliation from the border patrols the men not the two woman’s they help me out. I took my kids with me and the arrested me saying i had a warrant for my arrest from 2012 and guess what they didn’t do there job right and they mistaken me with another person like not just that yes you guys apologize but then laughed those men’s are the worse i don’t even know how they work there but thank god i’m not those type of persons. Never crossing the border in the mariposa area

Really I would not want their job. Cameras take pictures of vehicles people and license plates. behind the scenes someone is running those through a computer. then you get meet a Border Agent and had over Passports and the Statement things which are not allowed then the question about anything to declare. Normally we hand the last of the meat used to keep our 2 girls happy on the trip north. The idea is if you have something you purchased say you purchased something. they will ask what and the value. sometimes they ask to look not big deal. in the heat be polite and soon you will be done. towards the end of the day they are very warm and have asked hundreds of times while are only being asked once.

Had a friend who came through here fairly frequently. He complained bitterly about how pompous, officious, and offensive the US border agents were. It came to a head one day when he went through with a sealed bag of pork rinds. Apparently that’s a no no and one of the border guards on secondary snatched it from his passenger seat. It would have been cool as rules are rules but right away another officer walked up to the officer with the pork rinds in his hand and while a third looked through his stuff the other two ate the pork rinds. Now my friend always buys pork rinds. He carefully opens them and presses the against his sweaty balls and armpits etc. You get the idea. Then re seals the bag with a little gorilla glue. He then declares and loses a bag of these things every trip and chuckles all the way to Phoenix. As for my experience. Officers are rude with a few notable exceptions. The interesting part is the Latin looking ones are the worst. Surprising as you would think there was more sympathy. I don’t know why it triggers them that I’m a used book dealer but it does. I think the border patrol (if they cared and they don’t ) should send people through for quality control.

I was travelling by car on 9/02/18 through the Mariposa Nogales border into the US. I was travelling with my elderly mother and elderly sister in law. We had an Officer Guzman help us with our crossing. He asked if we had anything to declare. We had read upon entrance that things to declare were fruit, vegetables, raw meat, live animals, seeds, plants or soil. Of which we had none. The officer went on to look through our baggage where he found shirts that were in a bag and proceeded to throw them at us through the window while yelling "I ASKED YOU IF YOU HAD ANYTHING TO DECLARE. WHAT IS THIS!?" I proceeded to tell him we did purchase other miscellaneous items nothing over $200USD. The whole time he was yelling at us asking "WHAT PART OF THE QUESTION DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND!" We did not raise our voice at him, we did not disrespect him. He was visibly upset talking down to us and raising his voice as if we were children or hard of hearing. I understand that he was doing his job to protect the US and I understand that and have the utmost respect for that. What I do not understand is why did he have to raise his voice and talk down to 3 adults? I felt disrespected and I felt embarrassed to be yelled at as if we were criminals. I have never had an issue with officers like this before. I was appalled at the lack of professionalism this officer had towards us and I hope he learns how to appropriately approach the people he serves but before all, control his anger. I was really disappointed and I hope steps are taken to address this demeaning attitude and lack of professionalism.
