Exceptional Service from Chrystal Hicks at Christian Legal Aid of Los Angeles

I had the pleasure of working with Chrystal Hicks from the Christian Legal Aid of Los Angeles and I cannot express enough how outstanding her service was. From the very beginning, Chrystal demonstrated exceptional professionalism, efficiency, and compassion. She followed up immediately, ensuring that every detail was addressed in a timely manner.

Chrystal went above and beyond by emailing me attorney referrals and additional resources I needed over the phone. Her efforts provided me with the information and support necessary to move forward, which significantly reduced my worry and anxiety.

The intake process was seamless, and Chrystal made what could have been a stressful situation a very smooth and effortless transition. Her empathetic and caring demeanor truly stood out, making me feel supported every step of the way.

Chrystal’s attention to detail, promptness, and dedication to helping others are remarkable. It’s clear she genuinely cares about the people she serves. I highly recommend the Christian Legal Aid of Los Angeles and Chrystal Hicks to anyone in need of assistance—they set the gold standard for service.

Thank you, Chrystal, for going above and beyond! My daughter and I truly appreciate your prompt attention to our tenant’s rights concerns.

I wanted to provide a review in hopes that you could learn from my experience and improve client services. As a non-profit organization that relies on donations, it's crucial to treat all individuals seeking assistance with the same respect and gratitude as donors. Low-income individuals are essential to the foundation's existence.

I sought assistance with CalWORKs benefits, and my situation was complex. The person assisting me showed little interest and often claimed he didn't know much about child support and CalWORKs. He only offered to help with writing or preparing for hearings, but he never followed through. He did request an audit from child support, but despite showing him all my documents, he insisted there was nothing I could do. The information he provided, such as contact numbers and agencies, was already known to me and in process.

I felt disrespected when he called to ask if I had received the audit copy and then provided inaccurate information. When I corrected him, he responded dismissively, saying he wouldn't start the process over for another case, despite not having done any substantial work on my case. He then said he was ready to close my case, and I agreed out of frustration.

I've been dealing with this issue for four years, and while I understand he may have his feelings about it, his personal opinions should not affect his work. As a non-profit, people seek your help for knowledgeable guidance and options. Even though he is not an attorney, as an advocate, he should not treat clients as a burden.

I hope donors are aware of the quality of care provided, as it does not always align with the organization's mission. Some individuals should consider other professions if they lack empathy and compassion

I can confidently say that Legal Aid is a true nonprofit organization that genuinely helps the community. I’ve witnessed firsthand the professionalism, compassion, and dedication of their team—from the warm and helpful receptionist to the knowledgeable paralegal, Celeste, and the skilled attorney, Chris.

So far, my experience with them has been nothing short of wonderful. Everyone I’ve interacted with has shown incredible hospitality and a genuine commitment to serving those in need.

If you’re in Los Angeles and require legal assistance, I highly recommend utilizing resources like Legal Aid. They are truly making a difference in the community!

A complete waste of time. The paralegal who I spoke with on the phone was very kind and helpful.

However, when I went into the office to meet with the paralegal and lawyer Amanda McNally I felt a complete energy shift. I felt judgement from Ms.McNally. I sensed she did not believe the extremely distressing circumstances, criminality and fraud by the corporate landlords, that I explained and of course have piles of hard evidence. I was served with no notices , attempted illegal lockouts occurred, fraudulent and fictional UD filed after illegal lockout attempts. In every way the lawyer for the corporate landlord has shown nothing but fraud, lies and highly unethical conduct. I brought plenty of documents to prove all of this at least to get started .

I was told it would take a week to hear back from McNally. I received an obvious form email stating , "Unfortunately we can not help you...." and the list of referrals which I've already received from the same organization that referred me to Legal Aid.

I emailed McNally asking for some clarity and reasons as to why I would not receive legal help.
I've heard nothing back.

So it all seems like a big scam to me. We all hear about how these non profits receive huge amounts of funds, paying their executives very high salaries but then do very little to help those who need the most help.

So my experience is that Legal Aid is a non profit scam that did absolutely nothing to help me.

It is devastating when corporate greedsters are breaking the laws of California violating my rights and then Legal Aid essentially spit in my face with a denial form email saying try these other places.

I don't know why people bother to say that this place is fantastic when it is something terrible and useless Well, they told me to hire a private lawyer, they are not even competent enough to at least give me some information that would help me I don't know why the government bothers to allocate resources to something that is useless.

EDIT 2: Staff has had several to many days to get back with me about referrals since the ones I was sent led nowhere, but nothing.
EDIT 1: Since the occurrences below, I was connected with an attorney over issues I talked about in intake that lied in two LAFLA departments.
A guy hung up on me when I was telling him about me being discriminated against in work for being a transgender woman. Then I called to talk with a supervisor. I was told they would call me back in a certain timeframe. They didn't.

Sadly they won’t help you if you are not US citizen or resident, it’s the first thing the front lady ask you, don’t waste your time
