Fourmile Trailhead - Creede, Colorado

This trail is a true treasure! The hike is moderate with a lot of inclines! Hike in took about 3 hours. Coming back was a little easier so maybe like 2.5 hr back. The views are so worth the climb! The trail does take you all the way up to the single waterfall ( watch your footing) Another hiker did say we could have continued the trail over to the triple waterfalls but we was already running out of time before sunset. Next time.

Fall creek Falls is the first waterfall and there are 2/3 more past this which were also nice!

I have read a lot of reviews of this hike but a lot were incorrect or missing context.

Leaving from the Fourmile trailhead (not the RV/trailer parking lot just before which will add distance) this hike is +/-6.25 miles round trip with ~1,000 ft of elevation gain to the Fourmile Creek falls. Virtually all of the reviews appear to referring to Fall Creek Falls as Fourmile which is incorrect. Fall Creek Falls are awesome and in my opinion are a fine place to stop your hike… just make sure you do the last couple hundred yards (it’s steep) to reach the actual base of falls. If you continue on to Fourmile Creek falls the trail continues and it very steep, has a lot of cobble and requires a lot of scrambling. The stretch from Fall Creek falls to Fourmile creek fall added several hundred feet of elevation (we reached 9,820’) and an hour of time for our family. The pay off was a lot of work for a waterfall that wasn’t nearly as good a Fall creek.

We did the whole out and back in ~4.5 hrs with a 9 y/o in tow. The main hike has a mix of forest, meadow, river and beautiful cliffs which were stunning… but the path has a lot of cobble and NOT recommend for anyone with footing issues. For those able bodied, I highly recommend minus the add one from Fall Creek to Fourmile Creek.

I included our full hike track showing elevation profile and distance. I think knocking off last part would deduct ~0.75 Mike and ~400 ft of elevation

The waterfall was nice and the sights were beautiful. However, it was EXHAUSTING. I’ve hiked many moderate trails over the years this by far, was the most challenging. Not a whole lot of tree cover. So prepare to be in the sun a lot if you go in the afternoon. Overall it was just okay. If you like hot and challenging, this is your hike.

Beautiful hike through mountains to two waterfalls, and if you choose you can continue on to the lake a couple miles beyond. This hike is well worth it, the scenery is majestic and at times breath taking. If you're lucky you may see a few animals along the way!

Beautiful views and gorgeous falls.
Can be a difficult trail in certain areas so prepare for that, and bring plenty of water! You're going to be hiking about 7 miles round trip to make it to the first falls.
The only downside is the horse pool everywhere, you really gotta watch your step. Also watch for cows on the dirt road, which is a long.. long road. But it's worth it

It was clean, well maintained trail! We didnt get to make it to the falls because there was part that had a wide stretch of flowing water from the run off and I have two strong dogs with me that I was worried about getting across with, but it was stunning.

A bit of a drive on a dirt road to get to the trailhead. Worth it. This is a beautiful, moderate trail with a lot of up and down. The beginning is a lot of down, which of course means you are climbing up and out at the end. Stunning views along the way. A couple of small patches of Columbines. We hiked in the end of June. There are two falls. The first one you can get right under. We stopped at an overlook for the second. We arrived at the trailhead at 8:15 AM and there were only a couple other cars there. Which was a nice change from the trailheads near Denver. It was much more crowded when we were leaving of course.
