I'm going to have to give 1 star. After finding out that I'm eligible to get a phone call from an attorney, they never called. This is pitiful. Believe these reviews. Like this is your service, why don't you have the integrity to do the job. Burn my information. Unsatisfied, to say the least.

I'm a patient of access health and through that I found out about Houston Volunteer Lawyers. The staff attorney Susan Soto has been the best help I've ever had from a lawyer I never even paid. She listens carefully to all of your issues. She will then clearly explain the legal aspects. She is prompt at doing what she says she will do. She is one of the best lawyers I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and working with. Someone please give her a raise!! And I would like to add a huge thank you also to Michael and Austin Foley. They are the pro Bono lawyers who picked up my case after speaking with Susan. They are guiding me through the suit I filed for recovery of my stolen property, and fraudulent landlord activity from the previous address I lived at. These two have been the best team to guide me through this horrific process. Thank you guys so much for giving back to your community and being an anchor in my life ♥️

To thnk I gave this orginization a second chance. Mr. Andrew does not care about anyone but himself. He wants to argue with you then when you present a legal point he keerps returning to what he precieves the problem is, not once looking into the facts. This orginization needs to be shut down. If they are recieving any funds from the Government and not performing. My case is 34 years fighting an injustice as I was DESRTED in 1991 by my command, and then it got turned on me I am a VICTIM not a Criminal the real Criminal continues to be allowed to get away with what he has done and one day Justice will be served upon all those whom it belongs. Keeping my Faith alive thru Hope that soon Relief will be granted and people like Mr. Andrew and this whole orginization get what they deserve! Dont waste your time with these Clowns.

Houston Volunteer Lawyers are just as bad as Lone Star Legal Aid. I did an intake call with Deon Hunter and was scheduled to speak with a lawyer—only for the lawyer to never call or reschedule. Total waste of time.

I tried following up with Deon, but he never answered. Instead, I got the usual runaround, and eventually, a closing letter saying they couldn’t help. These so-called “free” legal services in Houston are useless. They don’t actually assist; they just push you toward paying for a lawyer.

It’s a never-ending cycle—you either make too much or just enough to be denied help. Complete waste of time.

Called to set up the meeting but never bothered to call me during the hours they agreed to.
I called the office the next day and was told “they are still making calls give it another 24hr” gave it 24hrs.
Never got another call.

The example of lawyers that don’t care about anyone.
Lawyers should want to help and make a difference instead you get nothing from this law firm.

Found my own probono lawyer on Reddit butshe said I had to go through HVL for her services. Despite yhe initial good vibes. Eventuallyconflicting opinion and communication issues were evident. HVL, Angeleese claimed I needed to basically be grateful for free help and that I was unable to receive a new attorney bc it was free and most don't recieve help. What does that have to do with me reapplying? The passive aggressive energy is wild and these ppl pick and choose who they want to help. Not fornthe greater good.

One of their lawyers, Jeremy, helped me out a lot! Got things removed from my record and took care of some probate stuff. He sacrificed a bunch of his own time to help out a stranger and I am very thankful.

I simply don’t understand an organization that never answers their phone within the business hours stated on the website. Please someone explain it? Failing to follow up; in the interest of the agreed process. In conclusion, if this organization cannot operate within the terms of their own bylaws of the people, I think it’s fair to say from previous reviews this organization needs to be defunded and closed. Due to this point it’s just wasting the people’s time and taxpayers money.
