Canney was appointed as advisory counsel in my case. The alleged victim in my case was an attorney and government official who was refusing to fulfill their obligations.

I had a list of questions and priorities that needed to be addressed when Canney was appointed and he stated that he would help with them.

Two issues in particular were a Motion for a Subpoena to Disclose Evidence, and Motions to Compel Out-of-State Witnesses to Testify…they were two of the three highest priority items.

He didn’t file either of the motions after multiple written requests, I tried to file the Motion for Subpoenas on my own when he wouldn’t help me write it, but I was still reliant on him to submit it and he failed to do so. A defendant needs evidence to support the presentation of their defense and has a right to obtain that evidence for their defense.

When I pressed the issue Canney engaged in gaslighting and withdrew claiming that my “asking for evidence for my defense was part of a pattern of abuse”

Canney let the trial date approach dangerously close, and then the DA asked for a trial delay because there was not enough time left for either of those motions to be addressed before trial.
