I puchased a home located in Stockton in August 2018. Shortly after the closing I filed for a "homeowner's exemption " which provides for a lesser property taxation amount. For the following two years I was assessed, and paid, the prior owners property tax amount (exemption filing had not been acted upon by the County). Beginning the third year notice sent to me stating I owed two years back taxes along with a $1400 increase for the third year (exemption still had not been acted upon; with the excuse that the office is running behind) which I paid with the office telling me any overpayment will be refunded. After many visits to the Assessors Office, the exemption was finally recognized and was told I would receive a refund by July 10, 2021. Failing to receive a refund, more visits resulted in being told the Controller Office issues the refunds. In September 2021, Controller Office staffer, Rochelle, tells me the check will be mailed out in two weeks. It is now October 18, 2021, and still haven't received my refund, however, I did receive a tax billing for 2021-2022 tax year. Hopefully I can retain my composure as I believe their are individuals whom would resort to not so friendly nor patient activity concerning their hard earned money.
